With S/4HANA, SAP is launching a holistic ERP solution on the market that scores particularly well with its forecasting and decision support functions. In addition, the new Fiori user interface is an important step towards visual appeal and simplified use. One highlight is the stringent provision of information in real time.

SAP users can choose from three different operating models: S/4HANA is available both on-premise and as a cloud solution (in the private cloud and the public cloud). It can also be used as a hybrid model.

SAP’s Simplification Initiative has equipped S/4HANA with a simpler data model and a new user interface, SAP Fiori. As a result, the data structure has been extremely streamlined and redundancies in the system have been avoided. As a result, less storage space is automatically required, saving time and costs. In addition, all business processes are executed faster and more efficiently thanks to the in-memory technology of the HANA database. For example, SAP S/4HANA Finance, also known as SAP Simple Finance, is a new accounting software designed to simplify and accelerate existing financial management. Financial solutions become more flexible thanks to a possible move to the cloud. Other benefits include improved accounts receivable accounting, faster financial statements and real-time intercompany reconciliation. As the central data source for accounting, the Universal Journal replaces the time-consuming analysis of various data sources. SAP S/4HANA also offers multidimensional reporting and a line item table that no longer requires reconciliation.

    Middle ground between a brownfield and greenfield migration. The aim of the hybrid approach is to transfer proven components of the legacy system to SAP S/4HANA and replace obsolete components and inflexible processes that cannot be further optimized with new ones.

In contrast to on-premises solutions, with RISE with SAP you do not purchase a one-off license model, but use a service model that integrates licenses, system operation and services. The costs are based on the number of Full User Equivalents (FUEs). A key advantage of this model is the centralized responsibility for operation, licenses, maintenance and support.

RISE with SAP is available in two deployment models: the Public Edition and the Private Edition. In the Public Edition, several customers share the infrastructure and software in a public cloud. The advantages are flexible scalability, high availability, low maintenance and the assurance that the host meets the highest security requirements.

The Private Edition enables more individualized processes and offers access to the classic ABAP extension (which should, however, be used with caution so as not to impair release capability). Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services are available as options.

Rise with SAP is aimed at all existing SAP customers as well as new customers who want to switch from on-premise solutions to the cloud (public or private cloud).

A comprehensive total cost analysis is carried out before a decision is made in favor of Rise with SAP. This involves comparing the total costs at the current time with those of Rise with SAP.

The introduction of five Rise with SAP versions for the automotive, consumer goods, industrial machinery and components, retail and utilities sectors makes Rise an attractive option for companies in these sectors in particular.

When a company expands and reaches the limits of its current ERP system, the question arises of an easy-to-implement, scalable ERP solution. GROW with SAP is designed for this situation. With this new offering, SMEs can switch to SAP particularly quickly, especially if they want to benefit from the preconfigured and standardized processes.


GROW with SAP is modeled on RISE with SAP and largely comprises similar components. It is aimed at medium-sized companies that want to implement a cloud ERP solution.

GROW with SAP combines SAP S/4HANA Cloud in the Public Edition with accelerated implementation services, preconfigured best practices, integrated AI and automation functions and the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). SAP Build is also part of the offering (GROW Premium) – a low-code/no-code development platform that allows users to implement their own process optimizations and small enhancements without having to code.

The offer is available in two variants: Base and Premium:

  • “Base” includes preconfigured end-to-end processes for procure-to-pay, order-to-cash and finance.
  • “Premium” contains all the functions of the Base Edition and also offers frequently used additional functions in the finance area such as cash management, accelerated month-end closing and consolidation functions.

With this range of functions, GROW with SAP corresponds to the previous “RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition” offering.

What is new, however, is the option to book “Acceleration Services”. These comprise up to 75 predefined business processes (scope items) for your industry. A system preconfigured in this way will be made available to you within four weeks of being commissioned by SAP. On this basis, we can start your implementation project with you as an SAP Cloud Partner.

SAP S/4HANA operating models

For the implementation of SAP S/4HANA, we offer SAP license variants and the corresponding SAP support and service. Alternatively, there is the option of using a subscription model for the SAP public or private cloud. This enables a quick and easy start with SAP S/4HANA, especially in combination with RISE with SAP or GROW with SAP.

Crediting of SAP ECC On Premise licenses

According to SAP, the remuneration for old SAP licenses will decrease continuously when switching to S/4HANA. Currently, the credit factor is 80% under certain circumstances. From 2025, the credit factor will be reduced by a further 10% per year. Switching to S/4HANA is only possible via a contract conversion, which in simple terms means replacing the existing SAP contracts.

SAP holds out the prospect of financial incentives for on-premise customers to switch to the cloud

Specifically, SAP is offering a time-limited offer with which companies can reduce migration costs. Until the end of 2024, SAP S/4HANA and SAP ECC customers will receive credits when switching to Rise with SAP or Grow with SAP, which customers can then offset against maintenance costs, cloud services or additional cloud subscriptions.
